At our traditional Thomas factory in Selb, we combine traditional porcelain production with state-of-the-art technology. As a subsidiary brand of Rosenthal GmbH, Thomas tableware is mainly produced in Speichersdorf, which is part of the Rosenthal factory in Selb, where tradition and innovation of both brands go hand in hand. Our production facilities are among the most advanced in the porcelain industry worldwide. Through continuous, forward-looking investments, we ensure sustainable and resource-conserving production that combines state-of-the-art technologies with environmentally conscious practice and craftsmanship for durable, functional and high-quality tableware.

Thomas has been producing high-quality porcelain in Germany for many years, which is characterised by its outstanding quality and unique aesthetics. Our production facility in Selb guarantees the high quality of Thomas products through precise manufacturing and careful selection of raw materials. Every step in our manufacturing process is supervised by experienced craftsmen and women to ensure that every piece of porcelain meets strict quality standards.

The characteristics of our hard porcelain

To produce our hard porcelain, we use a precisely balanced mixture of kaolin (50%), feldspar (25%) and quartz (25%). These raw materials are finely ground in large drum mills, mixed and then fed onto a magnetic belt that removes all ferrous particles to avoid unwanted stains on the finished product. Other impurities are filtered through a very fine-meshed vibrating screen. A hydraulic filter press removes most of the water from the mass, while a vacuum press removes the air. Only after these complex processes is the paste mouldable and ready for the porcelain production of our high-quality products.

Our hard porcelain is characterised by special properties that set it apart from ordinary porcelain. The special manufacturing process results in high strength and robustness, which makes our hard porcelain particularly durable. The perfect combination of temperature resistance and resilience ensures that our products can withstand daily use and always remain in top condition. Unique ceramics - stoneware production at Thomas

Thomas stoneware tableware stands for unmistakable naturalness. As one of the leading brands in porcelain production, we rely on the one hundred per cent naturalness of stoneware as a purely natural product. Our coloured glazes also consist exclusively of pure natural pigments, without any chemical additives. Each piece is carefully glazed by hand, giving every plate, cup and bowl in the Thomas stoneware collections a unique, authentic character. This individual glaze varies slightly from piece to piece, which emphasises the special handmade look of the tableware.

Discover the uniqueness of our Thomas Clay stoneware collection, which impresses with its unique speckled glaze. The characteristic speckled look is created by small iron inclusions that melt during firing and blend harmoniously into the glaze. Our Thomas Nature stoneware collection is also lovingly handcrafted using elaborate ceramic manufacturing processes. Made from high-quality stoneware material, the crockery is fired at 1,200 °C. As a result, and thanks to its elaborate glaze, the stoneware crockery made from this high-quality natural material is particularly resistant and robust.

The stoneware material is resistant to scratches and impresses with its high-quality craftsmanship in ceramic production and processing. Each piece in this collection is a handmade one-off that impresses with its authentic look and pleasant feel.

As a subsidiary brand of Rosenthal, Thomas is one of the few porcelain manufacturers that produces both the porcelain paste and the glaze itself according to a unique, secret recipe.

Our coloured tableware collections such as Thomas Loft Colour are characterised by their unusual glaze, which we have developed ourselves in our production facility. Instead of a transparent glaze, we use a coloured glaze that gives the products their special colour. The different thicknesses of the glaze allow the white porcelain of the Loft collection to shine through in different ways, making each item unique. The translucent effect of the glaze creates a unique handmade look that complements your table decoration in a special way.
